An Irish soccer club, Sligo Rovers F.C. was founded in 1928. They won the Irish League title in 1937 and 1977 and won the FAI Cup in 1983 and 1994.
Sligo Rovers secured their Premier Division status with an assured defeat of Drogheda United at The Showgrounds. Second half goals from Gavin Peers and Matthew Blinkhorn deservedly saw Rovers take the spoils on a cold night in Sligo.
