An American soccer club, the San Jose Earthquakes were founded in 1995 as the San Jose Clash. The Earthquakes played through the 2005 and then returned for the 2008 season. The Earthquakes won MLS in 2001 and 2003. Their fiercest rivals are the
Los Angeles Galaxy.
The San Jose Earthquakes won their second MLS Cup title in the highest scoring championship match in history when they defeated the Chicago Fire 4-2 at the Home Depot Center on this day in soccer history in 2003.
