Alex Rodriguez had already established himself as one of the two greatest shortstops in the history of the game (the other being Honus Wagner), when he moved to third base to become a
New York Yankee. Often compared with contemporaries like
Nomar Garciaparra,
Derek Jeter and Miguel Tejada, A-Rod is in a class by himself.
His incredible offensive skill would make him a premier player at even the easiest of defensive positions, such as Barry Bonds in left field, but A-Rod plays incredible defense, which makes him all the more unique in baseball history.
Whether he's on your favorite team or in the lineup of the enemy, any true baseball fan must acknowledge that it is a pleasure to see as fine a talent as A-Rod play the game. All of this and it is amazing that the man is humble and one of the nicest guys in the game.
A-Rod idolized Cal Ripken, Jr. and
Michael Jordan as a kid, and interestingly he came to dominate the game of baseball like Jordan did basketball at Ripken's positions.
