An American musician, Prince became one of the icons of pop music. His hit songs include "I Wanna Be Your Lover", "1999", "Little Red Corvette", "When Doves Cry", "Let's Go Crazy", "Purple Rain", "I Would Die 4 U", "Raspberry Beret", "Pop Life", "Kiss", "Sign 'O' the Times", "U Got the Look", "Batdance" and "Thieves In the Temple." He also starred in two films, "Purple Rain", "Under the Cherry Moon", "Graffiti Bridge" and "3 Chains o' Gold."

Changed his stage name to O(+> in June 1993, but changed it back to Prince in May 2000. The name change was a protest of his contract with Sony, which he felt was oppresive. Since O(+> is not pronouncable, during that time he was also commonly known as "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince." His birth name is Prince Rogers Nelson.
