The National Baskeball Association's franchise in New Jersey, the Nets were founded in 1967 as part of the ABA. They started as the New Jersey Americans and changed to the New York Nets in 1968. They won two ABA Championships before joining the NBA in 1976. They would take the New Jersey Nets mantle in 1977.
