Melanie Griffith Biography


Griffith received an Academy Award nomination and won a Golden Globe for her memorable starring role as Tess McGill in Mike Nichols' smash hit Working Girl. She also earned praise for her work in Another Day in Paradise and in Woody Allen's Celebrity. Griffith was also seen starring in Loving Lulu for Green Moon Productions.

Griffith has appeared in the films of some of the industry's most important directors. She made her debut in Arthur Penn's Night Moves at age 17 and went on to Michael Ritchie's Smile, Brian De Palma's Body Double and Jonathan Demme's Something Wild. She went on to star in Mike Figgis' contemporary film noir Stormy Monday, Robert Redford's The Milagro Beanfield War and John Schlesinger's Pacific Heights.

Reteaming with De Palma, she starred with Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis in Bonfire of the Vanities before joining Michael Douglas and Liam Neeson in the World War II espionage romance Shining Through. Her other films include Robert Benton's Nobody's Fool, Lee Tamahori's Mulholland Falls, Paradise, A Stranger Among Us, Milk Money, Two Much and the remake of Born Yesterday.

On television, Griffith starred as Marion Davies in the HBO miniseries RKO 281, opposite John Malkovich, James Cromwell and Liev Schreiber. Last year, she was seen on Showtime as Charlotte Haze in Adrian Lyne's controversial film Lolita, also starring Jeremy Irons and Dominique Swain. She earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the miniseries Buffalo Girls and starred with James Woods in the HBO film Women and Men: Hills Like White Elephants
