A native of Dublin, Méav attended the city's Trinity College. Between 1994 and 1998 she was a principal soloist with the world-renowned Irish chamber choir Anúna, and subsequently toured the United States as a soloist with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Still later, she toured South Africa with Lord of the Dance and gave concerts in Japan and South Korea.
Along with the other members of Celtic Woman, Méav gained musical stardom upon the ensemble's founding and almost immediate fame in 2004. Her singing is a prominent element of Celtic Woman's three CDs, Celtic Woman, Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration, and Celtic Woman: A New Journey. The following year she took maternity leave to await the birth of her first child. Her temporary replacement for Celtic Woman tours, Deirdre Shannon, left the ensemble in February 2006 and Méav returned to record the New Journey CD and participate in tours part-time. On 6 September 2006, a new member, Hayley Westenra, joined Celtic Woman, thus enabling the ensemble to maintain the cast of five female performers by alternating Hayley with Méav during touring periods. Méav committed herself, however, to the 2007 tour, beginning with the first performance on 14 February.
