Redick served as co-captain of the 2004-2005 Duke Men's basketball team along with senior point guard Daniel Ewing.
Redick set the record for the most consecutive free throws made without a miss in the ACC with 54. This record began on March 20, 2003 and ended on January 15, 2004. Redick is also currently on pace to set the record for highest career free throw percentage in the NCAA for players with over 300 attempts. The record is 91.3%, and through November 2005, Redick has made just over 93% of his attempts while at Duke. Redick also has a chance to break Virginia alumni Curtis Staples' record for career three pointers made with 413. Redick has received high praise from noted college basketball commentator, Dick Vitale, who has called him the best shooter in America. However Redick has learned under a great coach in Mike Krzyzewski, and has blossomed into a fine player.
In the 2004-2005 season, Redick led Duke in scoring with 21.8 points per game. He won the ACC Player of the Year award, and the Adolph F. Rupp Trophy for national player of the year. Redick's victory in the Rupp voting spoiled the consensus for Utah's Andrew Bogut, who won every other major player of the year award. (The Rupp is one of several notable college basketball player of the year awards, generally considered the third most prestigious after the Naismith Award and the Wooden Award.) In the 2005-06 season, Redick is generally considered to be one of the two front-runners for the major player of the year awards, alongside Gonzaga's Adam Morrison.
