Hope Davis was named 2003 Best Actress of the Year by the New York Film Critics Circle for her work in two of the year's most critically acclaimed independent features ? American Splendor, directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini and Alan Rudolph's The Secret Lives of Dentists.

Davis won a Golden Globe Award nomination for her portrayal of ?Joyce Brabner? in American Splendor. A fixture on 2003 Top 10 lists, American Splendor captured the Grand Jury Prize - Dramatic Competition at Sundance; Best Film Un Certain Regard in Cannes and the Grand Jury Prize in Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival.
