In 2000, Carlos had 57 doubles, 41 home runs, 137 RBIs and a .344 average. He went over 130 RBIs for the third time in 2003, posting a career-high 145 to lead the league while also hitting 42 home runs and batting .302.
The 97 RBIs Carlos had at the All-Star Break in 2003 were the third-highest total in history. Although his production slowed some in the second half of the season, he became just the sixth player in history to have four home runs in four at-bats in a game when he achieved that feat September 25.
In each of the past six seasons, Carlos has had at least 33 home runs and 102 RBIs. He has averaged 39.5 home runs and 123.5 RBIs during that stretch.
Carlos is respected in his native Puerto Rico for his charitable endeavors through his non-profit organization Extra Bases. In January 2003, Carlos organized a home run hitting contest among major league stars that raised $175,000. He donates $100,000 to his fund and other charitable organizations to help abused and abandoned children, to aid physically and mentally challenged children and to support youth sports.
