Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell star in “Extraordinary Measures” for CBS Films, the film division within CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS). The project, which wrapped principal photography in mid-June 2009, was the first film to go into production for CBS Films. Ford is also executive producer on the project. Tom Vaughan (“Starter for 10,” “What Happens in Vegas”) is directing. In the tradition of great inspirational dramas like the Academy Award nominated film “Erin Brockovich” and “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Extraordinary Measures” is inspired by the true story of John Crowley, a man who defied conventional wisdom and great odds, and risked his family’s future to pursue a cure for his children’s life threatening disease. From his working class roots, John Crowley (Brendan Fraser) has finally begun to taste success in corporate America. Supported by his beautiful wife Aileen (Keri Russell) and their three children, John is on the fast track. But just as his career is taking off, Crowley walks away from it all when his two youngest children, Megan and Patrick, are diagnosed with a fatal disease. With Aileen by his side, harnessing all of his skill and determination, Crowley teams up with a brilliant, but unappreciated and unconventional scientist, Dr. Robert Stonehill (Harrison Ford). Together they form a bio-tech company focused on developing a life-saving drug. One driven to prove himself and his theories, the other by a chance to save his children, this unlikely alliance eventually develops into mutual respect as they battle the medical and business establishments in a fight against the system – and time. But, at the last minute, when it appears that a solution has been found, the relationship between the two men faces a final test - the outcome of which will affect the fate of John’s children. Harrison Ford gets to play a different kind of hero in his new drama from CBS Films, 'Extraordinary Measures,' in theaters January 22. The film is inspired by the true story of John and Aileen Crowley (played by Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell), whose children (Diego Velazquez and Meredith Droeger) were diagnosed with a fatal disease. Faced with watching their children die, they set out in search of a cure themselves when doctors around them told them there wasn’t one. Harrison plays the man who may hold the key to the cure. "This is the essential story of [John's] life, and we couldn't have found a more compelling character on which to pin our tale," Harrison tells our own Mark Steines. "Most of all it's about the complication of this guy's life and the incredible resolve that he showed." Publ.Date : Tue, 17 Nov 2009 17:45:50 -0500
Brendan Fraser, Paul Bettany (with wife Jennifer Connelly and their kids) and the cast of 'Inkheart' battled the bitter chill of Manhattan with the premiere of their heartwarming new fantasy-adventure Thursday night. In addition to mounting excitement about Barack Obama's January 20 inauguration, the stars were talking about the crash of USAir Flight 1549 into the Hudson River that afternoon -- and the miracle that everyone on board survived unhurt! "Good news!" Brendan told ET. "I'm glad that everyone is apparently safe, and I'm really impressed by the response and capability of the [professionals involved in the rescue]." "I'm so pleased that nobody died; it's one of those awful nightmares -- you're frightened every time you take off," said Paul. "That's great news." Publ.Date : Fri, 16 Jan 2009 06:40:17 -0500
