An American R&B singer, Ashanti Douglas first became famous by contributing vocals to two songs that hit it big at the same time:
Ja Rule's "Always On Time" and
Fat Joe's "What's Luv?" She would go on to have her own hits with "Foolish", "Happy", "Baby", "Rock Wit You", "Rain On Me" and "Only U." Her acting credits include "The Muppets' Wizard of Oz", "Bride And Prejudice", "Coach Carter" and "John Tucker Must Die."
Ashanti's name comes from the Ashanti, a section of the people known as the Akans in Ghana.
