America is the youngest of her Honduran parents' six kids. She's a natural performer who started acting in school plays and landed her first show-biz job on the Disney Channel as a cheerleader in 2002's Gotta Kick It Up. Since then she has been involved in a variety of other film and TV projects and has appeared in episodes
of CSI and Touched by an Angel.
America and her Real Women costar, Lupe Ontiveros, won a Special Jury Prize for Acting at the Sundance Film Festival. America was also nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Debut Performance.
