Next, Bledel will star in the independent film Orphan King for writer/director Andrew Wilder. She portrays Darcie in the drama, which follows a group of friends growing up in New York City, the first generation of latchkey kids trying to escape the life of decadence in 1980s Manhattan. She will also appear in Bride and Prejudice, a Bollywood musical version of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice directed by Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham).
In the fall of 2002, Bledel made her feature film debut in Tuck Everlasting, which was based on the acclaimed novel by Natalie Babbitt. Bledel starred as Winnie Foster, a free-spirited teen trapped in a repressed Victorian household, who meets the mysterious Tuck family. As Winnie realizes the Tucks have a spring that grants immortality, she must choose between immortality and the love of Jess Tuck, versus living a true mortal life. The film also stars Ben Kingsley, William Hurt, Sissy Spacek and Jonathan Jackson.
Bledel began her acting career appearing in community theater in her hometown of Houston, Texas. She also modeled in New York during her school breaks. Before winning the role of Rory Gilmore, Alexis attended NYU Film School to study writing and directing.
